Nostalgia In A Bottle

Having moved from Mexico to New York when I was 5, I hold a special place in my heart for certain foods and drinks that remind me of home and my childhood. For me there is nothing that fills me with nostalgia more than drinking Coca Cola from a glass bottle. There is nothing quite like it in the world. Something about that the feel of the bottle, the way the bubbles tickle your nose and throat and the way that sweet sugar cane taste stays on your tongue, is enough to transport me back to my grandparent’s house.

I recently travelled to Barcelona and ordered a Coke there, and it just wasn’t the same. Theirs tasted almost citrusy, somehow more refreshing but not nostalgic. It wasn’t the sort of transportation I usually experience when I can get my hands on an imported bottle. It’s like a sweet time traveling elixir that i get to enjoy for a little bit. For me that glass Mexican bottle is a portal through time and space to more carefree days. Days spent cuddling up to my grandpa, hanging out at the ranch, or just washing down a quick snack with my uncle.

Such a big responsibility for such normal drink.
